YOKOHAMA, THE GREENEST TIRES
CYokohama, the Japanese tire company founded in 1917, has never enjoyed the recognition or popularity of other brands such as Michelin, Goodyear or Pirelli. However, long before the concept of “ecological tires” became fashionable in the motor world, the Japanese had already thought about it and were the true pioneers.
The first “ecological” tire manufactured by Yokohama was developed and sold in 1998 in Japan. At the time it was an experiment and a risky bet in a very conservative market, but the play went well. The product that best symbolizes Yokohama's environmental commitment is undoubtedly the BluEarth tire, which was released in 2014 and uses the innovative technology of “orange oil ” (oil extracted from citrus peel) to improve wet surface adhesion.
